Lakers' Bass diagnosed with patella contusion in left knee

After a precautionary X-ray proved to be inconclusive, a follow-up MRI and CT have revealed a patella contusion in the left knee of Los Angeles Lakers power forward Brandon Bass. the team announced.

The injury appeared to have taken place during Tuesday's preseason matchup with the Utah Jazz - a night in which Bass scored 12 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting in 15 minutes of action.

Bass, 30, was able to finish the game, with the Lakers ordering tests to ensure there wasn't any serious damage.

He will sit out Thursday's outing against the Toronto Raptors, and will be monitored on a day-to-day basis moving forward.

Bass has been a model of consistency and good health over the past three seasons, missing just one game with the Boston Celtics. He averaged 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds in 23.5 minutes per game in 2014-15.
