Report: Heat fully guarantee Whiteside's 2015-16 contract

It seems that the positive vibes Hassan Whiteside put out into the universe - the Twitterverse, to be exact - did the trick.

The Miami Heat amended Whiteside's contract Thursday, guaranteeing that the center will cash in on 100 percent of his 2015-16 deal, according to Basketball Insider's Eric Pincus.

Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel elaborated on the particulars of the decision, indicating that Pat Riley and Heat brass modified the previously staggered guarantee dates for the 7-footer's $981,348 salary for next season.

Prior to Thursday's changes, 25 percent of Whiteside's money was guaranteed on Aug. 1, and 50 percent of it was assured at the beginning of the regular season (Oct. 28), with the full amount heading to the 26-year-old's wallet on Dec. 1.

While this amendment provides Whiteside some peace of mind until he becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer, it does little to alleviate the Heat's financial constraints going forward.

The team remains significantly over the salary cap as Riley reportedly seeks opportunities to shed the contracts of Mario Chalmers and Chris "Birdman" Andersen in order to avoid a hefty luxury tax bill.

Retaining Whiteside's services beyond next season - assuming the big man continues to trend upward with his dominant post play - would require the Heat to shell out a pretty penny.

These fiscal woes are of no concern to Whiteside, however.

Now, the former second-round draft pick will be able to focus solely on his physique, "NBA 2K" rating, canine companion, and ongoing debate with small-ball proponent Draymond Green.

The Heat open their 2015-16 campaign with a Oct. 28 matchup against the Charlotte Hornets.
