Report: Eric Moreland, Kings agree to 1-year deal with 'significant' guarantee

The Sacramento Kings have re-signed Eric Moreland, according to Shams Charania of RealGM.

The agreement is on a one-year contract that contains a "significant" guarantee, likely the difference in Moreland opting for the Kings over other interested teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Detroit Pistons.

The Pistons were believed to be the front-runners despite already having too many guaranteed contracts. But the Kings, with whom Moreland signed last offseason, only to be waived one month ago to prevent a full guarantee from kicking in, retained the power forward as general manager Vlade Divac had hoped.

It's unclear how good a shot Moreland has of making a team that has 14 guaranteed contracts on the books, including five for traditional big men. The Kings kept Moreland on the roster while deploying him to the D-League last season, but they'd risk another team picking him up off waivers if they tried to cut him and make him an affiliate player with Reno, saving themselves the roster spot.

An explosive leaper at 6-foot-10, Moreland has potential as a rebounder and shot-blocker but is limited offensively. He averaged 13.7 points and 12.7 rebounds in seven D-League games last season before a labral tear in his left shoulder ended his season.
