Aussie federation on Swaggy P playing for Boomers: 'It’s not a possibility for real'

Nick Young wants to take his talents to Bondi Beach.

Fresh off his engagement to Aussie pop star Iggy Azalea, Young recently expressed interest in suiting up for the Australia men's national basketball team.

Despite the public's immediate questioning of "Swaggy Dundee's" inquiry - a reaction basketball fans have been conditioned to employ when it comes to Young's eccentric actions - he wasn't bluffing, it seems.

"It was to let us know that he was interested," a Basketball Australia spokesman explained to Fox Sports on Tuesday, regarding Young's request.

Unfortunately for the 30-year-old journeyman, simply marrying an Australian isn't enough to become a naturalized citizen Down Under.

"You need to be a permanent resident for three years before you can apply for citizenship," the spokesman added. "It's not a possibility for real."

While his eligibility to join the likes of Andrew Bogut, Matthew Dellavedova, and Patty Mills remains a distant possibility, national team representatives won't shut the door on Young's query entirely.

"I'm sure we'd be keen to consider him, but that's a long way in the future and that would be a matter for Andrej Lemanis as head coach to determine whether he thought he was a good fit for the team. He's a high calibre player so with his talent it would always be a possibility, but that's way into the future."

If Young was to ever play for the Boomers, it would behoove the team to ensure the FIBA-regulated arenas in which they play have rims that are more forgiving than those in the Staples Center.
