Former NBA player Josh Howard has reportedly worked out at the Dallas Mavericks' arena this week, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Dwain Price.

Howard - who was an All-Star in 2007 as a member of the Mavericks - has been using American Airlines Center as a proving ground, as he embarks on the long road toward an NBA comeback.

Earlier in August, reports emerged that Howard had been seeking an opportunity to crack a training camp roster ahead of the 2015-16 season.

With this most recent news of the 10-year veteran being granted access to his old homecourt, speculation of him inching closer toward an NBA return may gain further traction.

Prior to suffering multiple injuries to both of his knees, Howard enjoyed a successful three-year run - from 2006-09 - in which he averaged 18.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and one steal with an 18.4 PER for that period.

Howard suited up for the Austin Toros - the San Antonio Spurs' D-League affiliate - in 2013-14, but was waived after sustaining a season-ending injury.

He last played in the NBA for the Minnesota Timberwolves - in 2012 - after brief stops with the Utah Jazz and Washington Wizards.
