Amir Johnson has donned No. 15 as his jersey number for the past six years.

Prior to joining the Toronto Raptors in 2009, he wore No. 25 as a member of the Detroit Pistons.

As a newly-minted member of the Boston Celtics, Johnson was faced with the tough task of selecting a number that hasn't already been retired by the storied franchise.

Johnson explained his dilemma:

Choosing a jersey number above No. 55 might be viewed as an odd selection by basketball traditionalists. However, several players have gone with unconventional digits in recent years (including Johnson's new teammate, Jae Crowder).

The rationale in this circumstance is understandable, since the Celtics have retired nearly every numeral under the sun. No. 15 was worn by former player and current broadcaster Tommy Heinsohn, No. 25 was worn by Hall-of-Famer K.C. Jones, and No. 5 was famously adorned by Kevin Garnett.

As per Johnson's explanation, he played on a youth team called the Celtics in the late '90s.

#tbt been a Celtic #90s ?

And so, Johnson landed on No. 90. Why? Because he was almost born in the '90s. And that decade was "good." Sound logic indeed.
