Report: Knicks trying to lure Long Islander Danny Green

With the mecca of basketball entrenched as its shining beacon, New York City and its never-ending suburbs are home to some of the league's best players.

One such player is free-agent shooting guard Danny Green, who hails from Long Island. The 28-year-old is pining for a return to San Antonio, but according to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Green also has his hometown Knicks high on his list.

Green is one of the best 3-and-D players on the market. His numbers may have been inflated due to San Antonio's beautifully orchestrated system, but his skill-set is well-established. He's a lockdown perimeter defender and a dead-eye 3-point shooter.

Green shot 42.3 percent from deep over the past four seasons and boasts a defensive rating of 101.7 despite routinely checking the opposing team's best perimeter scorer.

The Knicks are interested in pretty much every significant free agent, so it's no surprise that they're targeting Green. But, for what it's worth, Green would fit a huge hole on the Knicks' painfully thin roster, and would be a good complementary piece alongside Carmelo Anthony. He would fit the role played by Iman Shumpert and Landry Fields over the past four seasons.

Green is also reportedly drawing interest from the Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, and Portland Trail Blazers.
