Kings' Cousins doubtful Friday with ankle sprain

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

A left ankle sprain held DeMarcus Cousins out of practice and has left him doubtful for Friday's game against the San Antonio Spurs. He also has a left hip contusion, the team announced.

Cousins tweaked his ankle in Wednesday's upset win over the Memphis Grizzlies, scoring 16 points with nine rebounds and six assists to help lead the Sacramento Kings to a 102-90 victory.

Sacramento has gone 2-10 without Cousins, the team leader in points, rebounds and blocks.

The All-Star has been one of the lone bright spots for the Kings, who are on their way to their ninth consecutive losing season. Cousins ranks seventh in the league in scoring, averaging a career-high 23.7 points per game, while hauling in 12.2 rebounds - the third-best mark in the NBA.

Sacramento announced Thursday point guard Darren Collison needs surgery to repair a core muscle and is expected to be out for three-to-six weeks, likely ending his season.
