Rockets' Terrence Jones returns from 3-month absence in win over Mavs

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Terrence Jones played in his first contest since early November on Wednesday and helped the Houston Rockets extend their winning streak to three games by downing the Dallas Mavericks with a 99-95 victory.

Jones logged 21 minutes off the bench, scoring 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field, while hauling in five rebounds and blocking two shots.

The third-year forward suited in up in four games before nerve inflammation in his left leg forced him out for an extended period. It interrupted what was a promising start to Jones' season, as the 23-year-old was averaging 14 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 29.3 minutes per game.

Jones is expected to be on a minutes restriction as he eases his way back into game shape, but the Rockets may be forced to lean on him a little more than the team originally anticipated.

Houston announced Wednesday that an MRI on Dwight Howard's right knee revealed fluid buildup, and the center will reportedly be sidelined for at least the team's upcoming two-game road trip that begins Friday against the Boston Celtics
