Larry Drew II gets 2nd 10-day deal with 76ers

Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Larry Drew II got a great opportunity to impress on a 10-day contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, playing six games in short order.

The audition went well enough that the team inked Drew II to a second 10-day deal on Monday, inserting him into the starting lineup for Michael Carter-Williams, who is out with an illness. Teams can sign players to two 10-day contracts before having to make a decision on them for the rest of the season.

In six games on his first deal, Drew averaged 18.7 minutes, scoring 4.7 points and dishing 4.3 assists. While he didn't shoot well at 38.7 percent, that was mostly due to a cold 2-of-11 mark from outside. Undrafted out of UCLA in 2013, Drew II has shown he can hit the triple more reliably than that, shooting 34.3 percent on the shorter college line and hitting 40.9 percent over two D-League seasons.

With the 76ers sporting a full roster and likely wanting to maintain flexibility ahead of the Feb. 19 deadline, Drew II's second stint with the team may be an audition for the rest of the league rather than for a long-term deal with Philly.
