Hassan Whiteside records triple-double with 12 blocks in win over Bulls

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

The hype is real.

Hassan Whiteside recorded a triple-double against the Chicago Bulls on Sunday, recording his 10th block after a goaltending call was overturned with 1:07 to play in the game.

Whiteside finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds to go with a Miami Heat franchise-record 12 blocks, all in just 25 minutes. It goes without saying that it's his first career triple-double. It was also the third-highest point total of his career, his second-highest rebound total and easily his highest block output ever.

This is also the league's first triple-double with blocks since Joakim Noah did it on Feb. 28, 2013, which is fitting since Noah sat the fourth quarter out of fear of Whiteside. The Bulls really had no answer, and no player has ever blocked more shots against the Bulls than Whiteside, who helped his Heat to a 96-84 victory.

That quote came at halftime, but Whiteside was understandably humbled after the game, declining to be as engagingly braggadocios as he has usually been during his 2015 career renaissance.

At least Whiteside is being honest

He would have been forgiven for pumping his own tires, as this is one of the best stories of the season so far. Out of the league for more than two full seasons and left to fight his way back in Lebanon, China and the D-League, Whiteside's emergence as a capable and effective NBA big man has been nothing short of remarkable.

Here are all 12 blocks in a convenient playlist, thanks to James Herbert of Eye on Basketball:

While he doesn't qualify for leaderboards quite yet, if he did, Whiteside would be dominating the rest of the league in blocks per minute and per possessions. He's already recorded 46 blocks, tied for 31st in the league despite playing fewer minutes than anyone in the top-100.
