Waiters isn't 'losing any sleep' over LeBron not reaching out to him after trade

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

Dion Waiters will make his return to Cleveland on Sunday for the first time since the Cavaliers shipped him off to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a three-team deal at the beginning of January.

But don't expect him to be sharing hugs with LeBron James, or many other former teammates for that matter. Waiters, who spent two-plus years with the Cavaliers after the organization selected him No. 4 overall in the 2012 draft, hasn't kept in touch with the old squad.

The only Cavaliers players who have reached out to Waiters since he was moved -  according to Chris Haynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer - are Tristan Thompson and, surprisingly, Kyrie Irving, whom he was long-rumored to have issues with.

"Man, he had his chance to reach out," Waiters said about James. "I'm not losing any sleep."

The change of scenery hasn't helped Waiters out much. He's getting more run with the Thunder, but his subpar numbers have been nearly identical.

Team PPG FG% 3P% PER
Cavaliers 10.5 40.4 25.6 12.2
Thunder 11.4 39.8 25.0 11.9

Waiters insists he harbors no ill-will toward the Cavaliers for trading him, but he isn't impressed how the situation unfolded.

The 23-year-old was getting ready for a game against the 76ers in his hometown of Philadelphia on Jan. 5, and was pulled off the court after going through pregame introductions.

"I would have liked to have played in Philly," he said. "We don't get a chance to go to Philly with this team. I didn't really care about getting traded, I just wanted to play home in front of my family and friends, go out there and have fun for the last time and I didn't have a chance to do that.

"That's the only thing that I didn't like, but everything else I was fine with."

The Thunder are 5-3 since acquiring Waiters, while the Cavaliers have gone 5-4.
