Report: Kings after Nets' Deron Williams

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

The Sacramento Kings are intent on bolstering their roster for a potential playoff push, and have their eyes set on oft-injured Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams.

Sacramento and Brooklyn have discussed a multi-player deal centered around Williams, a three-time All-Star, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports

No deal is imminent, but the reported talks include the Kings' Darren Collison, Derrick Williams and Jason Thompson. Wojnarowski notes that the Kings are also interested in Brooklyn's second-year center Mason Plumlee, which could create an obstacle to a potential deal as the Nets intend to build around the 24-year-old.

Williams and a number of Brooklyn's other high-priced stars have been linked to trade rumors for weeks, as the struggling Nets look to get out from a number of expensive contracts.

The 30-year-old Williams had offseason surgery on both ankles after a disappointing year and has been marginally better this season. Williams, who is under contract through the 2016-17 season and owed more than $40 million, is averaging 15.6 points on 40.3 percent shooting from the field while dishing out 6.8 assists through 25 games.

Sacramento's Williams has one more year remaining on his contract while Collison and Thompson are both signed through 2016-17.

Collison, who's playing the best basketball of his career in his first year with the Kings, would highlight the Nets' potential return and give them a starting point guard to replace Williams.

The 27-year-old Collison is setting career highs in minutes (34.7), points (15.6), assists (6.1) and PER (18.04).
