Report: No jaw fracture for Rudy Gay, expected to play in season opener

Matt Marton / USA TODAY Sports

Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay received some good news on Saturday, as X-rays on his jaw came back negative.

The news was initially reported by TNT's David Aldridge:

Gay caught an elbow to the face in the Kings' preseason contest against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. He had injured his jaw earlier this summer while playing for Team USA in the FIBA World Cup.

The injury forced Gay to leave the game, but by all accounts, Gay looks to be ready to play in the Kings' season opener.

The Kings acquired Gay in a midseason trade with the Toronto Raptors last winter. He averaged 20.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game in 55 contests with Sacramento.
