Thunder GM calls Reggie Jackson a 'core member'

The Oklahoma City Thunder are understandably high on point guard Reggie Jackson. Thunder GM Sam Presti even went as far as to call Jackson a "core member" of the team.

"I think we've been really clear about his importance to the team, that we see him as a core member of the team, as a core member of the organization," Presti told Cliff Blunt of the Associated Press. "We're going to put our best put forward, and I believe he will as well. We'll see if we can figure something out."

The Thunder have a week left to negotiate a contract extension with Jackson. If they can't reach a deal, Jackson will likely become a restricted free agent next summer.

Jackson made tremendous strides last season, bumping his points per game average from 5.3 to 13.1 as he took on a larger share of responsibilities for the Thunder's offense. Jackson filled in admirably as the starting point guard while Russell Westbrook was sidelined due to injury, and flourished playing alongside Westbrook upon his return.

The 24-year-old Jackson is entering his fourth season in the NBA after being drafted 24th overall by the Thunder in 2011.
