Seattle Seahawks and Portland Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen is well-known for his philanthropy and has pledged $100 million to fight the Ebola crisis.

The Microsoft co-founder told the New York Times that Ebola's exponential potential was the impetus for him to help fight the disease.

"Everybody feels called sometimes to really pursue a certain thing that resonates with them, and this has resonated with me," Allen told the New York Times' Stephanie Strom on Thursday.

Allen has started a website called TackleEbola.com to help finance projects dedicated to fighting the disease worldwide.

Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson and head coach Pete Carroll are on board.

Portland Trail Blazers trio LaMarcus Aldridge, Damian Lillard and Nicolas Batum have also endorsed Allen's website.
