Suns rookie T.J. Warren has fractured thumb

T.J. Warren's thumb is in worse shape than initially believed.

The Phoenix Suns rookie jammed the digit in a preseason game Tuesday, resulting in what the team thought was just a sprain. As it turns out, Warren's left thumb is fractured, according to Paul Coro of The Arizona Republic.

Phoenix had spoken highly of Warren's ability and versatility on the offensive end. The No. 14 overall pick in June impressed in summer league with 17.8 points per game, and has shot 50 percent from the floor in five preseason games while averaging five points in just 12.2 minutes.

If an extended absence is in the cards - he's out indefinitely - it may derail Warren's quest for a consistent rotation spot. The Suns remain thin on big bodies and, at 6-foot-8, Warren has a chance see time at both forward spots.

Warren's injury should secure more minutes for Gerald Green and Anthony Tolliver, though Warren was expected to see time developing in the D-League, too.
