The New Orleans Pelicans' new alternate jersey may have "leaked" on Tuesday, but in retrospect it seems to have been a controlled release in order to drum up interest ahead of an official team announcement.

Shortly after a mock-up of the uniform surfaced online, the Pelicans began tweeting photos of their players in the slick red jersey.

With the unveiling, the Pelicans become the 11th team in the NBA to rock a red alternate, though they'll only sport the new kit on four occasions this season. That includes opening night on Oct. 28, according to a release from the team.

Owner Tom Benson expressed excitement about the team's ability to unveil a new look, saying that "fans have had such a positive response to all of the Pelicans gear that is available" and urging the Pelican faithful to show up for the opener in all-red.
