Kings officially waive Mason Jr. after acquiring him from Heat

The Sacramento Kings have officially waived Roger Mason Jr., who they acquired just hours earlier from the Miami Heat.

As explained in the post below, the Kings had little basketball interest in Mason. Instead, the Heat paid them to take Mason off their hands, saving the Heat the luxury tax payments on his deal and giving the Kings a little cash for their troubles.

Once he clears waivers, Mason will be free to sign with any team except Miami. It's unclear if there will be a market for the 33-year-old guard, who averaged just three points in 10.4 minutes over 25 games with the Heat. He can shoot though - he's a 38.3 percent career 3-point shooter and has shot 35.4 percent this season - so maybe a veteran team takes a flyer.
