Rockets' Covington leads Prospects with D-League All-Star Game record 33 points

Robert Covington has scored just 11 points so far in his NBA career.

An undrafted rookie out of Tennessee State, Covington was scooped up by the Houston Rockets this summer and has spent the majority of his time in the D-League with Rio Grande Valley.

The extra seasoning appears to be paying off. Not only is Covington ninth in the D-League with 21.4 points per game and 10th with nine rebounds an outing, he also made the D-League All-Star Game.

Once there, Covington completely went off.

On Saturday, Covington led the Prospects team to a 145-142 victory over the Futures team, scoring a D-League All-Star Game record 33 points. He shot 12-of-23 from the floor, hit four triples and added six boards and three assists for good measure. And he did all of this in just 20 minutes of play. Needless to say, he won the event's MVP award.

Covington wasn't the only player to have a monster game, though, as the final score may have alluded to. Here are some other notable performances:

  • Pierre Jackson, he of the #FreePierreJackson movement, scored 30 points on just 18 shots with eight dimes simply because that's what he does.
  • Manny Harris, who recently had a pair of stints with the Lakers and dropped 56 points for the Los Angeles Defenders last week, mustered just six points.
  • Seth Curry, younger brother of Steph Curry, had 10 points and seven assists.
  • Arinze Onuaku had 22 points and eight rebounds, taking just 14 shots to get there.
  • Devin Ebanks, another former Laker, had 27 points on 13-of-17 shooting.
  • Ron Howard had a game-high 11 assists.

If it seems crazy that everyone had such terrific stat lines, consider this: the teams combined to shoot 59.1 percent from the field with 30 threes.

They should just call it the "NBA -League," because there's no D here, are we right?
