Mark Cuban praises NBA for admission of officiating error
After the NBA stated that Blake Griffin should not have been ejected during Wednesday's game between the Clippers and the Warriors, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has applauded the league's admission of an officiating mistake.
"I think it leads to fans trusting everybody involved more," Cuban told The Dallas Morning News. "We're still the only sport where people question the integrity sometimes, and I hate that more than anything because I know the integrity is above reproach."
Cuban also sympathized with the referees, and discussed how admitting mistakes is better than ignoring them publicly.
"Just like players miss free throws, guys are going to miss calls," Cuban said. "But we have to have transparency with the fans. You're only transparent when you think your guys are good. You're only not transparent when you don't think your employees are good. I think what the league did was a great first step."
This isn't exactly a "first step" as the NBA has admitted to officiating errors before, but Cuban is right about the need for transparency between the league and its fans.
