GIF: Davis suffers hand fracture on lob, hopes for 'short-term thing'

New Orleans Pelicans center Anthony Davis said after Sunday's game that he originally hurt his hand on a first quarter lob.

With 2:50 to play in the first, Davis sprinted down the lane for an open lob. It's clear that he doesn't flush it, and because of a J.R. Smith foul, the finish is a little awkward.

Davis would make his free throws, and as the play came back the other way Davis was visibly uncomfortable.

Shortly after, Davis was removed from the game and would return to the bench wearing a wrap on his left hand. The Pelicans later announced that Davis had suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left hand.

Following the game, Davis spoke about the injury:

"I was going up for a lob, got fouled and hit my hand on the rim."
...
"I haven’t found out anything yet. I hope that it’s a short-term thing (so that I can) get back on the floor."
...
"I just felt pain. I didn’t think it would keep me out (of the game), but it did. But we got the win. I’m happy that my team battled for the whole 48 (minutes) and got that W."

The team did not provide a firm update or timeline following the game, but that information may be provided on Monday after further evaluation.
