Mark Cuban wants Nowitzki to retire as a Maverick

Dirk Nowitzki's contract is set to expire this summer, but Mavericks owner Mark Cuban doesn't think it will take much convincing to keep the German forward in Dallas.

"We'll just sit down and we decide," Cuban told Star-Telegram. "We've been doing this for 14 years, so I don't expect the drill to change. I've delivered on what I've promised, so we've got a good relationship."

Nowitzki, who turns 36 in June, will earn $22.7 million in the final year of his contract. And as the end of his career nears, Cuban plans on doing everything he can to ensure Nowitzki retires as a Maverick.

"You've got to ask him," said Cuban when asked if it's a given that he'll re-sign with Dallas. "But we're going to do all we can to keep him forever."

Cuban added that he doesn't believe Nowitzki is a player who would simply sign with whatever franchise offers him the most money.

"Making hundreds of million of dollars will do that to you," Cuban said.
