Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell is targeting a return to game action as soon as Friday's home contest against the Philadelphia 76ers, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Mitchell has missed 12 of the last 14 contests for the Cavaliers due to a nasal fracture and a PRP injection to treat a bone bruise in his knee. Cleveland has gone 5-7 over that stretch and sits in third in the Eastern Conference with a 44-28 record.

The 27-year-old is averaging 27.4 points, 6.1 assists, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.8 steals in 49 games this season. Despite his excellent stats, Mitchell will miss out on an All-NBA spot due to the league's 65-game requirement.

Cleveland's wing depth has taken a hit as the team has missed starting forward Max Strus due to a knee strain. Evan Mobley returned Monday from a nine-game absence due to an ankle injury.

The Cavaliers face the Charlotte Hornets later Wednesday.
