Report: Becky Hammon declined Florida women's head coaching job

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Becky Hammon turned down an offer to coach Florida's women's basketball team, sources told Mike Robinson of SB Nation.

Hammon reportedly weighed the decision for several days before opting to stay with the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant coach on Gregg Popovich's staff.

Florida's offer was less than the average SEC coaching salary, but was a significant raise from her current salary with the Spurs, according to Robinson.

The Spurs hired Hammon in 2014, making her the first full-time paid female assistant coach in NBA history. The 40-year-old enjoyed a 15-year pro playing career before settling in on the sidelines.
