The Los Angeles Lakers are once again in the hands of Magic Johnson.

Having taken an ax to their previous leadership structure Tuesday, Lakers co-owner Jeanie Buss removed Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak from power and instead installed Magic.

The new powers that be spoke on Spectrum Sportsnet about the move.

"This was a difficult decision. I probably waited too long. For that I apologize to Lakers fans," Jeanie Buss said, according to Lakers reporter Mike Trudell.

"Lakers values are so strong. The Purple and Gold standard dictated that … it was time for a change," she added.

Magic spoke mainly about two things: the upcoming trade deadline and the search for a new general manager. Magic said he has already fielded coals from general managers across the league, and that he's looking for someone "smarter than me" to be GM.

“(We want someone who) understands the CBA, salary cap, and the new NBA … also have relationships already with teams, players, and agents," Johnson said of his search.
