Recently cut Grizzlies guard D.J. Stephens arrested for domestic abuse

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Just four days after the Memphis Grizzlies made him one of their final cuts before the start of the regular season, D.J. Stephens was arrested in Memphis on charges of domestic aggravated assault, Yolanda Jones of the Commercial Appeal reports.

Stephens was taken into custody Wednesday night after allegedly attacking his child's mother, grabbing her by the wrists and throat, and throwing her to the ground multiple times, according to the arrest affidavit acquired by the Commercial Appeal.

The woman called 911 and was taken to hospital, where Police discovered cuts and scratches on her arms, nose, lips, and face; scrapes on her neck; and a bloody, swollen left eye.

Stephens, who drew attention for his remarkable leaping ability, was reportedly considering playing overseas rather than returning to the Grizzlies' D-League affiliate in Iowa.

The 25-year-old is now in jail on a $15,000 bond, and will be in court for an arraignment Friday.
