Report: NBA's mid-level exception to rise under new CBA

Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

There's plenty of money to go around in the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement, which is expected to be struck with the Players Association as early as the end of the month.

The league's mid-level exception is poised to see a boost, rising into the $8-million range from $5.6 million, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Under the old CBA, the MLE was set to jump in increments of between $100,000 to $300,000 over the next five years, reaching $6.3 million in 2020-21.

League revenue is projected to surpass $8 billion this season, which would move the NBA closer to Major League Baseball for second among the top-five sporting leagues on the planet.
