Toronto Raptors power forward Jared Sullinger will undergo foot surgery Monday, with no timetable for a return, the team announced.

Sullinger will have a screw inserted into the fifth metatarsal of his injured left foot, a procedure the team indicates is a preventative measure to alleviate stress reactions.

The surgery will lead to Sullinger "minimally missing several weeks," according to a report from The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Sullinger has yet to play a game since suffering the injury during the Raptors' preseason opener against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 1.

Injuries have been an ongoing issue during Sullinger's first few seasons in the league, forcing him to miss a total of 73 games from 2012 to 2015.

The five-year veteran averaged 10.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists on 43.5 percent shooting in 81 games with the Boston Celtics last season.

With Sullinger out, backup power forward Patrick Patterson is expected to start the Raptors' season opener Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons.
