Spoelstra assures Dragic that Heat are not looking to trade him

Goran Dragic is a veteran who has played on three teams in his eight seasons. He understands that the NBA is a business and that players get moved.

Still, the 30-year-old point guard was appreciative when Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra came to him personally to reassure him that the latest trade rumors were untrue.

"Spo came over and did that today," Dragic told Ira Windersman of the Sun Sentinel. "He just said those rumors, they're not true.

"That was really nice from Spo. That's not his job to come to the players to say it, so I understand."

Reports surfaced Wednesday that the Sacramento Kings and Heat were "kicking the tires" on a potential swap of Dragic for disgruntled forward Rudy Gay.

However, in conjunction with Spoelstra's reassurances, local reporters such as Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald says the Heat indeed are not interested in that deal (although they might add Gay in free agency next summer.)

Given Miami's mass exodus of stars over the past two seasons, the Heat are in no position to shed their best player in Dragic. However, should they decide to embark on a rebuild, turning Dragic into young assets might be wise.
