Five years ago, there was a real possibility the Sacramento Kings were on their way out of town. On Friday, that was long forgotten as the city opened the brand new Golden 1 Center, the downtown arena the team will now call home.

Cutting the ribbon on the facility was franchise owner Vivek Ranadive, Sacramento mayor and former NBA star Kevin Johnson, and former league commissioner David Stern - who has had the street outside named after him.

Among the features of the Golden 1 Center is believed to be a first in major professional sports - 23 all-gender restrooms.

The Kings play their first game in the building Oct. 10 against Israeli squad Maccabi Haifa, and host their regular-season home opener on Oct. 27 against the San Antonio Spurs.
