76ers' Simmons suffers right foot fracture

Philadelphia 76ers rookie Ben Simmons suffered a fracture in his right foot after rolling his ankle during a training camp scrimmage Friday, the team announced.

Simmons will undergo further treatment before a timetable for his recovery is set.

After being chosen with the No. 1 selection in the 2016 draft, Simmons was the odds-on favorite to win Rookie of the Year during the upcoming season. The 6-foot-10 forward has drawn comparisons to LeBron James since his freshman year at LSU, wowing scouts with incredible passing skills for a player of his size.

Barring a speedy recovery, Simmons will become the Sixers' third first-rounder in the last four years to have their NBA debut stalled due to injury, joining Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid.

With Simmons likely on the shelf for the foreseeable future, Philadelphia will need to rely heavily on Jerryd Bayless and Sergio Rodriguez at point guard early in the 2016-17 season.
