Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Cameron Payne has been diagnosed with an acute fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot, the team announced Thursday.

His return timetable hasn't been revealed, and it's unknown whether the 22-year-old will travel with the Thunder to Spain for preseason games against Real Madrid and FC Barcelona on Oct. 3 and 5, respectively.

The injury occurred Tuesday at John Marshall High School during the opening half of a team scrimmage when Payne drove to the basket against Josh Huestis.

Payne underwent surgery for a similar ailment in July, although the previous injury was a stress fracture, not acute. He played through the pain during the regular season, but started wearing a walking boot in March due to discomfort.

The Thunder have options to back up Russell Westbrook should Payne miss time, as they can always play Victor Oladipo or veteran Ronnie Price at the one spot.

Payne averaged five points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists on 41 percent shooting in 57 appearances coming off the bench during his rookie campaign.
