Trail Blazers to get new logo, uniforms for 2017

USA TODAY Sports

The Portland Trail Blazers are receiving a design makeover prior to the 2017-18 NBA regular season.

Team president Chris McGowan confirmed during Monday's media day that Portland's logo and uniforms will undergo changes and be unveiled next spring.

According to McGowan, it won't be a major overhaul, but rather a "modernization" of the team's current scheme. "I wouldn't call it drastic," he said.

The current logo has only been slightly updated from the original look, which debuted in 1970. That initial logo was created by designer Frank Glickman, the cousin of team founder Harry Glickman.

The lines are meant to represent the game of basketball, with five (red) for offense and five (black) for defense, or vice-versa.
