FIBA has honored David Stern and Hakeem Olajuwon for their contributions to international basketball.

The pair, who were already Basketball Hall of Famers, headline a group that was inducted Saturday into FIBA's Hall of Fame in Geneva and Mies, Switzerland.

Stern, the NBA commissioner from 1984-2014, collaborated with then FIBA Secretary General Borislav Stankovic in the '80s and '90s to make it so pros could compete on the world stage.

"I am greatly honored to have been selected for induction into the FIBA Hall of Fame," Stern told FIBA.com. "I am proud of my collaboration with Borislav Stankovic to unite and strengthen basketball on a global basis, which has been continued by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and FIBA Secretary General Patrick Baumann.

"It is also a great honor for me to be inducted with Hakeem Olajuwon and the other class of 2016 inductees who have contributed so much to our game."

The Nigerian-American Olajuwon won a gold medal in the 1996 Summer Games as a member of Team USA. "The Dream" is also a former NBA MVP, two-time Defensive Player of the Year, and 12-time All-Star, who led the Houston Rockets to two championships.

The other inductees of FIBA's 2016 class are Panagiotis Fasoulas, Manuel Raga, Juan Antonio San Epifanio, Michele Timms, Jorge Canavesi, and the late Juan Antonio Samaranch.
