Heat to keep Wade's No. 3 vacant as Waiters switches to No. 11
Dion Waiters has worn No. 3 with both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Oklahoma City Thunder, but now that he's in South Beach, the 24-year-old shooting guard will need to find new digits to call his own.
Waiters has agreed to don No. 11 for the Miami Heat after signing a reported two-year, $5.9-million contract with the franchise this offseason.
The number had previously been worn by Dorell Wright for five games during the 2015-16 playoffs, as well as Chris "Birdman" Andersen, who was dealt to the Memphis Grizzlies prior to the trade deadline.
Dwyane Wade - who is now a member of the Chicago Bulls on a two-year contract - had used No. 3 throughout his 13-year stint with the organization, where he won three NBA championships and made 12 All-Star teams.
It's believed that the Heat will keep his number vacant until the day they eventually retire and hang it from the rafters at American Airlines Arena.
