With Nicolas Batum reportedly locked in to a new five-year contract, the Charlotte Hornets have turned their attention to unrestricted free agent Marvin Williams with the hope of securing a deal as soon as possible, league sources told ESPN's Marc Stein.

Williams, 30, has been with the Hornets the past two seasons after coming over from the Utah Jazz on a two-year, $14-million contract in 2014.

His 2015-16 campaign was his strongest statistically since suiting up for the Atlanta Hawks to begin his NBA career. In 81 appearances, Williams averaged 11.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting 45.2 percent from the field and a career-high 40.2 percent from behind the arc.

"There's no question. I want to return," Williams said during his end-of-season interview. "Ill let it be known right now this is the most fun I've had in a season."

Cap space has started to clear up for Charlotte with the departures of both Jeremy Lin and Al Jefferson, who have reportedly decided to take their talents to the Brooklyn Nets and Indiana Pacers, respectively.

The Hornets were bounced from the playoffs in the opening round by the Miami Heat in seven games.
