Report: Rockets tender qualifying offer to Motiejunas

The Houston Rockets' power forward of the future is Donatas Motiejunas, not Terrence Jones.

According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets will tender a qualifying offer to Motiejunas to retain the right to match any offer he signs this summer. Feigen adds that the Rockets want Motiejunas back for next season and beyond.

Jones, meanwhile, will not be tendered an offer and will become an unrestricted free agent.

Oddly enough, the Rockets nearly traded Motiejunas to the Detroit Pistons at the trade deadline before injury concerns over his back nixed the move. Trade talks were quiet as it pertained to Jones.

Nevertheless, Motiejunas projects to be the better prospect. The 7-foot Lithuanian has a slick inside-out game and can play both frontcourt positions, while Jones is strictly a power forward.

Last summer, the Rockets engaged in extension talks with both players, but those discussions failed to generate any traction.
