Report: Warriors want Stephen Jackson on coaching staff, he wants to play
After losing the NBA Finals in gut-wrenching fashion, the Golden State Warriors are looking to rekindle some of the magic of a bygone era.
The Warriors are interested in bringing back beloved former swingman Stephen Jackson in a coaching role, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. Trouble is, "Captain Jack" is reportedly intent on wearing a uniform next season, not a suit.
Perhaps emboldened by former Warriors teammate Baron Davis, whose attempted comeback had him throwing down dunks and draining 35-footers in the D-League last season, Jackson wants to try his hand at an NBA resurrection.
The 38-year-old hasn't played since the 2013-14 season, when he averaged 1.7 points on 23.1 percent shooting in nine games for the Los Angeles Clippers. But Jackson is no stranger to fanciful notions and delusions of grandeur. Earlier this season, he insisted his and Davis' "We Believe" Warriors team of a decade ago would beat this year's 73-win outfit in a seven-game series.
In parts of four seasons with the franchise between 2007-2009, Jackson averaged 19.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, five assists, and 1.4 steals.
