The wife of Houston Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni was among those who needed to be rescued by boat during the severe flooding last week in West Virginia.

Laurel D'Antoni was at the family's offseason home at The Greenbrier resort when the severe storms hit, and managed to escape the damage along with the family's two cats.

"Everybody is fine," the new Rockets coach told Calvin Watkins of ESPN. "Our hearts go out to all the people that aren't fine in areas that are devastated. We just want to try to help them and rebuild in any way that we can."

D'Antoni was in Houston working during the NBA draft when the storm hit Thursday, and was among the lucky ones whose homes experienced minimal damage.

"It was very scary," the 65-year-old West Virginia native said. "There was some damage, very minimal, water rising and she was caught in it, she couldn't get out and the only way she could leave was by boat. They came out and rescued her and some different people."

The flooding in the region has killed 23 people and destroyed numerous homes. It also led to the cancellation of the PGA Tour's Greenbrier Classic due to extensive damage of the host course, the Old White TPC.
