Van Gundy: Pistons looking to add PF, PG this summer

Detroit Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy will put on his other hat as team president this summer as he looks to patch up a pair of roster needs.

Following a productive 44-win season that saw them fall in the first round to the eventual NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers, the Pistons move into the summer with most of their roster intact.

With veterans Anthony Tolliver and Steve Blake off to test the open market as unrestricted free agents, Van Gundy said he'd like to add a power forward and backup point guard to serve as replacements.

"We don't need a lot of people," he told reporters. "We don't have a lot of money compared to what some of these teams have with the new salary cap. We really need two spots. We drafted Henry (Ellenson) last night but we still need a four-man who can at times play the five (center) in these small-ball lineups. We're really trying to get a guy who can get out and move his feet on the perimeter.

"Then we'll be looking for a younger backup point guard. A guy that we can have for two or three years that we think can step into that role and create some offense and get the game going up-tempo a little bit. Those are really our only two needs going into free agency."

With roughly $15.5 million to spend this summer, Van Gundy will have to get creative. It was reported Friday that the Pistons are trying to move guard Jodie Meeks and the remaining $6.5 million on his salary to clear up space.
