The Memphis Grizzlies have officially named former Miami Heat assistant David Fizdale as their new head coach, the team announced on Sunday afternoon.

He has reportedly agreed to a four-year deal with the franchise, with the fourth year acting as a team option, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

A press conference to introduce Fizdale will take place on Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Fizdale released the following statement concerning his new position with the Grizzlies:

I am extremely excited to be in Memphis and really looking forward to building a legacy with this talented group of players. In my career, I have been fortunate to have worked with some of the greatest coaches and players in the NBA and am ready for this challenge. I am not only here to contribute to an organization that has built a history of winning, I am here to win it all and bring the wonderful people of Memphis their first Championship Parade down Beale Street. I am truly honored that Robert Pera, Chris Wallace and the organization felt that I am the right man to lead us forward and I would like to thank them for their confidence and this great opportunity.

The 41-year-old has spent the past eight seasons working for the Heat as both an assistant head coach and an assistant coach, winning two NBA championships in 2012 and 2013. His resume also includes stints with the Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks.

The Grizzlies are coming off a disappointing campaign in which injuries to several key players cost them the chance to finish the regular season strong or properly challenge the San Antonio Spurs in the opening round of the playoffs. Marc Gasol (foot) and Mike Conley (Achilles) were both unavailable for the series.
