Report: Grizzlies offer coaching job to David Fizdale

After a month-long vetting process, the Memphis Grizzlies have reportedly locked in on a new head coach.

The Grizzles have offered the vacant position to Miami Heat assistant David Fizdale, and the two sides are working out a contract, league sources told The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

ESPN's Marc Stein reported Tuesday that Fizdale had wowed Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace in his first interview, and had been flown back to Memphis to meet with team owner Robert Pera.

Fizdale, who also serves as Miami's director of player development, has been on the Heat's staff since 2008 following stints on the bench with the Golden State Warriors and Atlanta Hawks. The 41-year-old reportedly beat out San Antonio Spurs assistant James Borrego for the job offer.

The Grizzlies have made the playoffs six straight years, but are coming off their worst season (42-40) since 2009-10, and face tremendous uncertainty with Marc Gasol recovering from foot surgery and Mike Conley set to hit unrestricted free agency.
