What would an X-Men team look like if it were made up of NBA stars?

Could the X-Men beat the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, though? Let's just get that joke out of the way before we start comprising a unit of NBA stars capable of harnessing their powers to save the planet from danger.

On the day of the official release of "X-Men: Apocalypse" in theaters nationwide, here's a look at what the team of mutant heroes would look like if it were comprised of NBA players.

Professor X - Gregg Popovich

Popovich has established himself over the years as a basketball genius who's taken several players by the hand to help them reach their full potential - similar to what Charles Xavier does at his School for Gifted Youngsters. With the exception of Tim Duncan and Andre Miller, who are both in their forties, All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge was the only player on this year's 67-win roster drafted with a lottery pick.

Iceman - Stephen Curry

The common sports analogy of having ice in your veins when attempting big buckets goes hand-in-hand with Curry. "The Chef" has never met a shot he didn't like, which makes him - and what he accomplished this season - so special. No one would dare attempt to light it up as often, or from as far away, as the NBA MVP does, with his 402 3-pointers breaking his old league record.

Beast - LeBron James

Marvel's profile of Beast describes the blue behemoth as having "superman strength, agility, endurance, and speed, despite his bulk." That's basically James in a nutshell. NBA fans have never seen a player quite like "The King." He moves like a point guard, is built like a power forward, and has the strength of a juggernaut center. Not that Juggernaut, though.

Wolverine - Damian Lillard

The Portland Trail Blazers guard possesses a similar "screw you, me against the world" attitude to that of Wolverine, although he's certainly easier to share a room with than the hack-and-slash Berserker. Lillard takes exception to the fact that he's never been named to an All-Star team, using that as fuel to prove his doubters wrong as one of the NBA's more under-appreciated talents. He also shares Wolverine's rejuvenation ability, missing only four regular-season games in four years.

Cyclops - Chris Paul

Paul shooting optic blasts out of his eyes would be insanely cool. This comparison would also go a lot smoother if he wore Kurt Rambis-esque goggles while running the point. Nonetheless, "CP3" gets the Cyclops treatment because of his ability to read the floor like no other. His passing vision is truly superb, finishing second this season in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.80). Paul also may have a thing for Jean Grey, although that's nowhere near confirmed.

Quicksilver - Russell Westbrook

Keeping up with Westbrook on the hardwood requires some great kicks, the cardio of a marathon runner, and an oxygen tank just in case. There's a handful of players who could arguably call themselves the fastest of the fast, although none can say they can turn on the burners quite like the former scoring champ. He and Quicksilver both know how to have a good time, too. Perhaps they can exchange fashion tips, perform an intricate dance routine, or even race around the world.

Colossus - DeAndre Jordan

The Los Angeles Clippers' man in the middle is a force around the rim. A solid-steel physique like Colossus would also help explain why Jordan has been impervious to injury in recent years. Ranking second in both blocks and rebounds per game, the 6-foot-11, 265-pounder is a matchup nightmare for any opposing center unfortunate enough to have to bang down low with him. Let's also assume the X-Men's metallic powerhouse can't shoot free throws either.
