Mayweather on fight with Pacquiao: 'The time is right, and the time is now'

After years of posturing and verbal jabs back and forth, it appears Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao may finally be ready to trade real shots in the ring.

Talk of the two meeting in the squared circle reignited earlier this month when Mayweather called out Pacquiao while appearing on the Showtime Network. In a recent interview with FightHype.com, Mayweather explained his decision to open up about his long-rumored rival.

"I think just timing," Mayweather said. "The right time. The right place. I think that this fight should happen. The time is right, and the time is now."

While speaking on Showtime, Mayweather placed the blame for the inability to schedule a bout between the two fighters squarely on the shoulders of Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum.

According to Mayweather, the Top Rank CEO has control over when and who Pacquiao fights, and it's Arum's influence that Mayweather believes has kept the fight from happening.

"When people say Bob Arum is in the way, that's the difference between me and Pacquiao," Mayweather said. "I'm in control. When I say 'I'm ready to go,' I'm ready to go. Pacquiao fights when Bob Arum tells him he has to fight. I fight when I want to fight. I move when I want to move."

Mayweather has said he wants a fight with Pacquiao on May 2, and even though it may be a few years later than most people had hoped, it would still unquestionably be the most hyped fight of 2015.
