Drogba hopes for Chelsea return in future, maybe as manager

Montreal Impact striker Didier Drogba has an agreement with the directors at Chelsea that he will return to the club in some capacity one day, with the Ivorian not dismissing the possibility of managing the Blues.

The 37-year-old's playing days clearly aren't over after he tallied 12 goals in 12 Major League Soccer starts since his August debut, but he already has one eye on what he'll do after he hangs up his boots.

"I want to give back to the club which has given so much to me. I have agreed that with the club directors," he told BBC Africa. "Why not manager? Why not sporting director, trainer at the academy, or maybe an advising role for strikers?"

Drogba is a legend at Stamford Bridge after netting 157 strikes in 341 outings over two trophy-laden spells with the club. He expressed his confidence in its under-pressure manager Jose Mourinho, who signed him from Marseille in 2004.

"If the club has kept him that means owner Roman Abramovich thinks that he is the right man. I think the players trust him and he is giving his best to change the situation."

He added, "They have quality when it comes to the players, and quality when it comes to the management. This is a club which usually doesn't have a bad season twice."

Chelsea currently has striking issues, with numerous players tipped to join in January, but Drogba thinks this is the time for bigger names currently in the squad to step up and take responsibility, as they did when he was with the Blues.

"We could take responsibility for a result and change the situation in bad moments, such as when there was a change of manager of when we had bad results," he said, according to Mark Irwin of the Sun.

"There was always someone to step up and say 'guys, we need to do something,' and everybody would follow."

Chelsea returns to Premier League action Sunday with a tough trip to in-form Tottenham Hotspur.
