Report: Greinke to decide between Dodgers, Giants

David Price isn't the only pitcher primed for a massive payday.

Shortly after news broke that Price agreed to a $217-million deal with the Boston Red Sox, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported that free-agent right-hander Zack Greinke has narrowed his list of suitors down to two division rivals.

Greinke will pick between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants, according to Rosenthal. He is expected to sign either a five-year deal worth around $160 million or a six-year contract at $192 million, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

It was reported Monday that the 32-year-old Greinke is seeking a contract that will pay him at least $30 million per season.

Price's deal - the largest ever for a pitcher - carries an average annual value of $31 million per season, tied with Miguel Cabrera for the richest average annual salary in baseball history.

Greinke opted out of his contract with the Dodgers in early November, leaving a guaranteed $71 million on the table so he could pursue a more lucrative long-term offer on the open market.

"We have enough alternatives with free agents and the trade market that there's no time pressure for us to land a starting pitcher," Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi said Tuesday in the wake of the Price signing.

Greinke, who finished second to Jake Arrieta for the National League Cy Young, pitched to a 19-3 record, with a 1.66 ERA and 0.84 WHIP over 222 2/3 innings this season.
