Dee Gordon may get his wish to stay in Miami for a long time.

The 27-year-old second baseman confirmed in an interview on MLB Network on Wednesday that his agent is indeed speaking with the Marlins about a long-term extension.

"My agent is doing the talking," Gordon said. "They're just keeping me in the loop. I think it's going pretty well right now. We'll see how that goes. I'm just playing the waiting game. We're going to do the right thing."

The Marlins, who are reportedly interested in exploring a multi-year contract with the National League batting champion, are assessing their needs in the offseason, according to president of baseball operations Michael Hill, and it makes sense that Gordon is high on their list, as the speedster hit for a higher average than both NL MVP Bryce Harper and runner-up Paul Goldschmidt.

Gordon would welcome an opportunity to stay with the Marlins long term.

"I love it here - the ballpark, the coaches, the staff," he said.

Gordon, who isn't eligible for free agency until after the 2019 season, made $2.5 million last season after being traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers. He is projected to make $5.9 million through arbitration in 2016, according to MLB Trade Rumors.

He hit .333/.359/.418 with four home runs, 46 RBIs, and 58 stolen bases en route to not only a batting title, but the stolen base lead in the NL, as well as Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards.
