Red Sox will try to move Allen Craig

Jeff Curry / USA TODAY Sports

Boston Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has no shortage of bad contracts he could look to move over the offseason.

Dombrowski says the team is, for now, committed to seeing what Hanley Ramirez can do at first base next season. However, the same trust isn't being afforded to Allen Craig.

Trading Craig would be "an ideal scenario," Dombrowski told reporters Tuesday - though he admitted it would be difficult to move the 30-year-old and the $21 million remaining on his contract over the next two seasons.

Acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals at the non-waiver trade deadline in 2014, Craig has struggled to the point where the former All-Star found himself playing the bulk of this season in Triple-A Pawtucket.

In 36 games with the Red Sox this season, Craig hit .152/.239/.203 with one home run and 26 strikeouts.
