Boras: Harvey 'gave his arm already' for Mets

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Scott Boras is in California for Game 1 of the National League Division Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets and reporters were quick to ask the agent his opinion of the innings controversy surrounding his client, Matt Harvey.

"Everybody knows what his ethic is. And remember this, too: Matt Harvey gave his arm already for the New York Mets," Boras told reporters. "In 2013, he pitched until he didn't have a ligament. He's the kind of guy, he wants his team to do well. He wants them to win. And you've seen what he's done."

Boras suggested in September that Harvey surpassing his post-Tommy John surgery 180-inning limit would be a risk to the impending free agent's health, but he didn't bite when asked if it was the right-hander's call to keep pitching.

"You guys were there. I wasn't," Boras continued. "I'm not applying any interpretations to this because of the fact that it's the playoffs, and I think the focus should really be on the game."

Harvey, who has thrown 189 1/3 innings to this point, is scheduled to get the ball in Game 3 of the series on Monday at Citi Field.
